FR: A Lviv (Ukraine), autrefois Lemberg, Ph. Sands découvre plusieurs coïncidences historiques qui le mèneront de Lemberg à Nuremberg, de secrets familiaux à l'histoire universelle. C'est à Lemberg que son grand-père grandit avant de fuir, échappant ainsi à l'holocauste qui décima sa famille ; c'est là que H. Lauterpacht et R. Lemkin, deux juristes juifs déterminants lors du procès de Nuremberg et auteurs des concepts de 'crime contre l'humanité' et de 'génocide', ont étudié. C'est là enfin que H. Frank, alors gouverneur général de Pologne, annonce en 1942 la mise en oeuvre de la 'Solution finale'. EN: In Lviv (Ukraine), formerly Lemberg, Ph. Sands discovers historical coincidences that lead him from Lemberg to Nuremberg and, from family secrets to world history. It was in Lemberg where his grandfather grew up before fleeing, the Holocaust, which decimated his family; it was there that H. Lauterpacht and R. Lemkin, two prominent Jewish lawyers at the Nuremberg trials and originators of the concepts of 'crime against humanity' and 'genocide', studied law. That very same city was also where H. Frank, then Governor- General of Poland, announced in 1942 the implementation of the 'Final Solution'. |
